Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Avian Flu Risk and Prevention Booklet

SummaryText
Published by SIL International, this booklet tells the story entitled 'Terpen Village Avoids Avian Influenza' which describes one village's encounter with avian influenza (avian flu or bird flu). The story was designed to give information about bird flu in a way that could be easily understood by all who read it, starting with signs of bird flu in chickens and providing a strategy for preventing its spread. The booklet also provides information about how villages, families and individuals can protect themselves, including an information page at the back of the booklet with 10 steps that can be done to avoid avian influenza.

The booklet is available for download as a whole or in sections, with a number of different versions, including English and Indonesian languages with Asian or Papuan illustrations. Any or all parts of the materials, including the illustrations, may be copied, reproduced or adapted in order to meet local needs with the provision that the items reproduced are distributed free or at cost (not for profit). A person or organisation wishing to copy, reproduce, or adapt these materials for commercial purposes should first obtain permission from SIL International.
