Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Children and Media - The Czech Republic

Proposed in October, 2002 by Centrum Detske Televize (DTV), the Children and Media project is designed to develop the media competence of children and young people. That is, the proposed programme would work to help children and young people think critically about the massive amount of information available to them through various kinds of media. One part of the project has already been implemented: a website that enables those under age 26 to publish their creative endeavours. The larger project proposal is an outgrowth of the Children's Television programme, which has been in operation since 1996.
Communication Strategies
Launched in October, 2002 (in Czech only), the JuniorPress.cz site enables young people to publish their articles, stories, poems, photos, videos, and audio projects.

If implemented, Children and Media would also work to support creative activities in an effort to encourage children and young people to do something active, to think independently, and to spend their free time constructively.

The Children's Television programme, on which the Children and Media project would be based, features independent television projects created by children and young people. Children are at the centre of the project; adults act as advisors only if needed. Young participants design their own shots, reporting, and news; they think of a subject or theme, arrange for a child-reporter with a child-cameraperson to shoot it, and ask another child to edit it. At present there are 11 editorial boards of Children's Television in various cities and towns of the Czech republic; more are planned. Most of the production of these regional boards is made to be broadcast on local cable television. Since December 2001 a 25-minute programme called "Paleta" has been broadcast on cable television. This programme is compiled and set up by contributions of the editorial boards. An anchorman presents the stories, also inviting various guests to the studio according to the particular theme. The last few minutes of "Paleta" is devoted to the news service.
