Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

India Media Centre (IMC)

This research and knowledge transfer centre is dedicated to the study of the media in India and to international consultancy and training development on this issue. Based in the School of Media Arts and Design at the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom (UK), the India Media Centre is a collaboration between Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) and the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM). The Centre aims to:
  • promote and develop research and knowledge transfer on Indian media in a global context;
  • ensure dissemination and impact of research through international conferences, events, publications, and policy documents;
  • attract promising research students;
  • build collaborative links with international institutions, policy makers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and creative and cultural industries;
  • provide a platform for UK-based Indian media, arts, and cultural organisations through exhibitions, installations, and film screenings; and
  • offer consultancy and short courses to a range of different groups including government officials, journalists, media organisations, and NGOs.
Communication Strategies

The Centre uses research and dissemination of that research in an effort to raise the academic profile of Indian media, build international links and partnerships, and disseminate information through conferences, events, and publications. Specific research interests include: Indian journalism in a global context; Indian popular cinema: its history, culture, and global circulation; communication for development; media as "soft power"; and Indian documentary and screen-based art practice.

IMC welcomes interest from those wishing to spend time at the centre, as visiting fellows or associate researchers. There are opportunities to work with members of the IMC staff at both MA and PhD levels. Some scholarships are available for MA, MPhil, and PhD research projects.
