Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

LIEN - Europe

The Link Inter European NGO's (LIEN) programme was established by the European Commission with the main objectives of stimulating citizen's initiative and strengthening the capacity of non-governmental and non-profit organisations working with disadvantaged groups. Approved in 1997, it will be completed in December 2000.
Communication Strategies

Promotion of Macro and micro projects financed with management, monitoring, audit and evaluation to study the effectiveness of the programme. The macro project provides funding to co-funded partnership projects involving formally constituted non-state/non-profit making bodies, mainly to cover training costs and know-how transfer. The micro-projects scheme provides smaller grants to be made for projects carried out by small local non-governmental organisations in central and eastern Europe.
Development Issues

HIV/AIDS, women, disadvantages groups, partnerships, social re-integration
Key Points

Priority fields of activities will be projects which assist women who are particularly disadvantaged to improve their condition and status, as well as education and professional training opportunities. Also projects which contribute to the social reintegration of the unemployed and marginalised groups. And finally projects which promote sustainable health and social support for certain target groups.
Partners

European Commission, local and national NGO's
