Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This 4-page research brief, from Youthnet - Family Health International, offers an annotated list of resources with web links to youth-serving organisations. This is a sequel to YouthLens No. 1, produced in July 2002, as part of a five-year progamme funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. The five-year project seeks to provide information that helps improve reproductive health and prevent HIV among young people.

This summary of resources is offered in three sections: Overview Reports; Reproductive Health Program Development/Implementation; and HIV/AIDS Program Development/Implementation. The summaries include: full report titles; brief descriptions; links to websites; and email contact information.

Several examples of reports include:
  • The State of the World’s Children 2005 - an annual report from UNICEF focusing on poverty, conflict, and HIV/AIDS with features important for adolescents, including free education for those orphaned by HIV/AIDS and fighting sexual exploitation and trafficking.

  • Capacity Building Resources in Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (2003) - a training package from PATH, based on workshops in Southeast Asia, is designed to help organizations with programme design, strategic planning and networking, programming, youth-friendly health services, and monitoring and evaluation.

  • HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care among Especially Vulnerable Young People (2004) - a collaboration between WHO and the Safe Passages to Adulthood programme focuses on the needs of especially vulnerable youth, including migrants and refugees, sex workers, and injecting drug users.
