Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Red TV - Peru

Red TV is a network that includes 115 television channels in 24 departments throughout Peru, ranging from small municipal channels to commercial television companies. The network focuses on democracy and citizen awareness by developing skills in participative television production, debate, and discussion. It seeks to involve communities as well as universities and NGOs throughout Peru.
Communication Strategies
Some network members retransmit signals from Lima channels, while others have their own programming; all of them have their own band that includes local news. The network carries out two projects:
  • Televisión Ciudadana (Citizen TV): training for local channels to help them develop their topics. Also includes technical assistance for producing segments that broach issues of local development, strengthening democracy, and building citizen awareness, and that promote debate and the participation of leaders and of the local public.
  • Pantalla Viva (The Living Screen): a talk show with debate and opinion on local topics of interest to make citizens familiar with the need to strengthen democracy in Peru. The programme gives special importance to public participation through questions and interventions, such as calls from the public.
The Red TV site offers a sales, loan, or rental service for videos called Videoferia (Video Fair), through which it offers titles by production companies, such as TV Cultura, Calandria, Kantu, and TVUNSA. In addition, a television network may register its own productions.
