Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Youth Information Center (YIC) is an online and physical resource centre for East African youth launched by the African Youth Parliament (AYP) in collaboration with German Foundation for World Population. It provides adolescent-friendly services in an effort to lead East Africa youth to a revolution in sexual and reproductive health education.
Communication Strategies

The physical regional resource centre provides services to youth groups in Kenya and the entire East African region. The services provided include a library, a cyber café, one-on-one counseling, referral services, and edutainment through video and recreational facilities.

The online resource centre consists in a youth-friendly informative website that includes various categories addressing youth issues such as sexual and reproductive health. Information and communication technology (ICT) is here used as a tool to encourage young people to gather information and to learn more from each other. AYP's strategy involves harnessing the positive influence of peers by providing a structured online programme of information sharing, discussion, and learning between young people.
