Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Prime Time Summit - USA

Population Communications International, with the Producers Guild of America, Caucus of Producers, Writers and Directors and Writers Guild of America, will hold the first Prime Time Summit on June 4th and 5th for the writers and producers of all US prime time television programmes which will be aired this fall on 6 television networks.
Communication Strategies

The purpose of the summit is to present social issues to the creative community and make them aware of how vitally important their contributions are, and can be, in dealing with these and other issues. Issues to be addressed include:violence against women, teenage sexuality (with an emphasis on the role of the young male), and emerging diseases (especially old ones with newly resistant strains of bacteria and virus).

Key Points

Participation is by invitation and is designed to assemble those in the prime time community who shape the story lines and characterizations which can influence attitudes and change behaviour. Keynote for the conference is Dr. David Satcher, US Surgeon General and Assistant Secretary for Health. Principle presenters are Bonnie Campbell, Director of the Division for Violence Against Women for the Department of Justice, and Dr. Mark Rosenberg, Director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention.
