Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Cholonautas - Peru

Cholonautas is a web page that focuses on the academic use of Internet possibilities in an effort to fill gaps that, along with other variables (ethnic origin, class, gender, or generation), hinder the development of Social Sciences in Peru.
Communication Strategies
Cholonautas seeks to build a Social Sciences community by providing academic updates and information on current debates, events, and publications in that intellectual field. The site also seeks to help balance the North-South dialogue with Andeans in the northern hemisphere, making that debate more horizontal. In its efforts to take into account the fluidity of disciplinary boundaries and the advantages of an interdisciplinary approach, this project broaches Social Sciences from academic traditions including anthropology, history, sociology, literary critique, and cultural critique.

The virtual library offers a broad selection of contemporary texts and articles related to the Social Sciences.

Key Points
Citing various analyses, programme organisers note that the web is a quick, effective, and inexpensive way to disseminate updated information, thus avoiding bureaucratic obstacles and social gaps. Along the same lines, the web may help reunite fragmented academic networks. In Peru, there is no Social Sciences web page that covers the growing need that students, teachers, professionals and, especially, young people throughout the country have for academic updates. However, the few pages on the topic are mainly in English and their main purpose is not to offer this type of service.
