Kids Century - China
Kids Century (KC) is a bilingual newspaper for primary school children in China. Published by Chinadaily.com.cn, this weekly paper is an effort to help Chinese children learn the English language. Readers can also visit KC's colourful, interactive website for "a lively experience of language learning". The purpose of the initiative is to improve the quality of educational media for children living in China, and use it as a platform to help Chinese kids develop in healthy, productive directions. A broader aim is to help Chinese kids have a better understanding of the world, and the place of their own culture within it.
Communication Strategies
KC's central communication strategy is to provide entertaining, educational media for young readers so that they might learn in an online and offline communication pattern.
Specifically, KC publishes a Chinese and English language newspaper that includes stories on such topics as travelling and science. These particular stories, for instance, are an effort to communicate with Chinese children where they are living in the world, with whom they are living on the Earth, and why animals are an indispensable part of human existence. This newspaper is published once per week.
KC also runs a multimedia website that is designed to inspire kids to learn English by playing entertaining games. At the same time, this portal includes sections that enable teachers and parents to exchange ideas on how to communicate with their kids.
