Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Center, founded in 1972, is a multiethnic and multicultural feminist policy research, analysis, and advocacy organisation. They work on multiple issues - violence against women, women and HIV/AIDS, work/family and workplace diversity, education and poverty/welfare reform, reproductive rights and the law, for example.
Communication Strategies

Mostly advocacy within government agencies. They work intensively with a national network of women state legislators in the United States through their "Contract with Women of the USA" programme - which seeks to implement the principles of the Beijing Platform for Action in the United States. Their "Foreign Policy Institute for State Legislators" prepares women state legislators to influence US foreign policy on women's human rights and reproductive rights and health in the spirit of Cairo. They publish reports, newsletters, policy papers, research papers, action alerts, press releases and op-eds to bring research findings and policy analyses to wide and diverse audiences. To receive their quarterly newsletter contact cwps@centerwomenpolicy.org.
Development Issues

Women, rights, family planning / reproductive health rights.
