Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Legal Rights Awareness Sessions Initiative - Pakistan

The Legal Rights Awareness Sessions Initiative has been launched under the auspices of the AGEHI Resource Center's advocacy project called Fight Against Dowry (FAD). The progrramme's purpose is to create awareness among rural communities about their rights as set out in Pakistani law, to inform them of the required procedures in case of infringement of these rights, and to provide training of peer educators in the community. The initiative reaches Rawalpindi/Islamabad and Attock districts in Pakistan.
Communication Strategies
The initiative involves two major activities. First, awareness sessions are intended to sensitise the community about their rights and inform them about ways to seek justice in case of infringement. Sessions are held at SACHET Community Development Programmes (SCDP) in Gagri, Banigala, Shadra, Pathargarhm, and Panyali. Experts from Rawalpindi High Court and districts courts of Rawalpindi/Islamabad participate in these sessions.

In addition, four workshops will be conducted to train members of the community to serve as peer educators. Teachers, imams, and shopkeepers will participate in sessions held at the four SCDPs listed above.

Furthermore, the initiative is introducing a law clinic that aims to provide counselling on rights and infringement of these rights as envisioned in the Constitution of the country.
