"Let's Connect" Art Exhibition

"We hope the art exhibition will give people an insight into children's understanding of communication at an early age and will raise awareness of the importance of encouraging children to develop their communication skills further."
"Let's Connect" was held as part of "Hello", a national United Kingdom (UK) drive to increase the public awareness of children's communication to promote children's communication development. In November 2011, an exhibition of children's art opened to the UK public to give children in nursery school or primary school a chance to think about communication and how they interact with adults and other children. It was organised by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust's (NCH&C) speech and language therapy teams, in partnership with Norfolk County Council and the University of East Anglia (UEA).
Approximately 20 local schools and preschools were represented at the exhibition, which consisted of over 80 pieces of artwork: collages, paintings, and drawings. Each submission was created by either individual children or groups of children to show what "communication" means to them. NCH&C's speech and language therapists work within multi-disciplinary teams to help children and adults to develop their communication skills, perhaps as a result of a developmental issue or after a medical condition such as a stroke.
At the exhibition, people will also be able to find out more about "Hello" and speak to NCH&C's partners about the support on offer to local children, including PRESMA (Preschool Music Association), Speech and Language Therapy students from UEA, The Anti-bullying Alliance, and ECAT (Every Child a Talker).
