Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Youth Information Service of Kazakhstan (YISK) - Kazakhstan

Launched in 1998, this nonprofit organisation fosters communication among Kazakhstan youth through information exchange and the promotion of gender development among youth. There are 15 Youth Information Service of Kazakhstan (YISK) branches in the main cities of the country (Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Aktau, Semey, Oskemen, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Kostanay, Uralsk, Shymkent, Kyzylorda, Taraz, Petropavlovsk and Karaganda).
Communication Strategies
YISK's strategy is based on an understanding that young people are a key strategic resource for development efforts in the country. In addition, YISK organisers feel that NGOs, as the institutes of public policy, represent that sphere by providing young people with skills, knowledge, and experience related to practical democracy. This experience comes in the form of internships in public noncommercial organisations - sometimes in other countries.

Specific efforts have included the creation of a database on youth NGOs of Kazakhstan, and the selection and dissemination of information about young people (youth NGOs, youth news, youth exchanges and cooperation, legislation, social support of young people, and activities on the part of bodies of state management on development and realisation of youth policy). YISK has also organised special youth-focussed events like training seminars, round table discussions, forums and open public discussions on youth problems, meetings of youth NGOs, youth advocacy sessions, and educational programmes focussing on nonprofit management, gender equality, or democracy.

This is a very interesting article but I really wonder where the information came from. I have tried to contact the source listed but have not received a response. IFES (International Foundation for Elecctions Systems) is listed here as a partner/funder for YISK. I have no knowledge of any such relationship and have been unable to contact YISK directly.

Editor's note: based on the above note and our inability to contact either IFES or YISK to confirm this connection, we have removed IFES as a partner. If anyone can substantiate any further information for us, please contact us! Many thanks.
