Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

This TV commercial (TVC) is part of a continuing campaign of positive messaging for the partnership of women and men for gender equality and against domestic violence (DV). Building off of the "With all my force against violence" national campaign, "Raise your voice louder" is designed to engage men in ending violence against women (VAW). The "Be a Man. Real Men Take a Stand Against Violence" campaign is organised by ABAAD-Resource Center for Gender Equality in Partnership with International Medical Corps (IMC), Heartland Alliance, Urgent Action Fund for Women's Human Rights, Forum of Development, and Culture & Dialogue & Limelight Productions.

"This TVC, like its predecessor, does not focus on blaming the males in our society who are the perpetrators of DV. Rather, this TVC praises the men in our society who are against the gender biases and who are active in the fight to end VAW. This TVC supports men who, like their female counterparts, refuse to remain silent about the issue of VAW and gender inequalities in our countries. This TVC continues what has come to be known in the field of study of masculinities and gender as 'positive masculinity'."
