Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Published in 2001 and based on Family Care International (FCI)'s Sexual and Reproductive Health Briefing Cards, this set of user-friendly multi-media tools is designed for those who are developing and giving presentations on a range of sexual and reproductive health and rights topics for a range of audiences including policymakers, community members, and journalists.

The tool contains:
  • 70 slides featuring photographs, charts and graphs, definitions, statistics, country examples, and community/policy action areas
  • a user's manual containing information on using and adapting the slide presentations as well as a list of references and suggested further reading
  • additional resources including selected fact sheets and briefing papers by participating agencies (United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Center for Reproductive Law and Policy (CRLP), Population Reference Bureau (PRB), Protection and Advocacy, Inc. (PAI), and Guttmacher Institute that cover 8 sexual and reproductive health topics including adolescent sexuality, male involvement, violence against women, and unsafe abortion.
The material is available in English and Spanish. The Spanish version includes 20 additional slides that present issues and facts specific to a Latin American and Caribbean context. The tools are available in two formats: a CD-ROM (containing PowerPoint slide presentations and PDF files); and a hard copy (containing 8 ½ x 11" slide transparencies, a printed booklet and fact sheets). Note: only a limited number of hard copies was produced.
