Association for Advancement of Information Technology (AAIT) - Bangladesh
Towards the end of 1996 AAIT embarked on a project for the establishment of an ICT training programme for the women scientists, researchers and technologists of Bangladesh.
Communication Strategies
5 workshops:
- 1997 at the Asia Pacific University, Dhaka,
- also in 1997 in Dhaka,
- 1998 at the Institute of Scientific Instrumentation (ISI) of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission, Dhaka,
- 2000 in Bogra (northern region),
- yet to happen - will also be in a regional city.
Development Issues
Technology, Education, Women.
Key Points
The project was conceived based on the fact that a sizeable proportion of Scientists, Technologists and Researchers are women who are disadvantaged and are traditionally under represented in many respects. Their knowledge and skills are unrecognised, underused and undervalued in science, engineering and technology, particulary in communications sectors.
Most of the participants (with different levels of educational qualifications - from diploma to Ph.D.) have been found to have no exposure to computer knowledge. After a short interval, the trained participants were contacted at their workplaces and about 90% of them were found to apply their acquired knowledge in their respective fields.
