Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Books for Africa is a biannual venture aimed at distributing textbooks and journals of veterinary interest to veterinary faculties in African countries where they are needed. The project is based at the University of Pretoria's Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepport, in South Africa. A group of veterinary university students will travel to and donate books to universities in countries including Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Communication Strategies
The project takes books to remote African veterinary faculties, thereby stocking up their libraries and improves the interaction between the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort, South Africa and other establishments.

"The distribution of the information contained in the books and journals serves to enrich the Veterinary field in other parts of the African continent as well as the lives of those people and animals that will benefit there from."

The project will be take place in November and December 2004, starting at Onderstepoort, South Africa, visiting universities of Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The project consists of a forty-day conference trip into Africa, using an estimated two vehicles and catering for eight people.
