Collaborative Leadership Learning Modules
SummaryText
Published by Turning Point, this 398-page publication presents learning modules on key concepts for the practice of "collaborative leadership", a communication strategy designed to foster open dialogue among people with diverse, distinct perspectives. It has been developed with an eye toward bringing community members together to find solutions to complex public health problems such as HIV/AIDS.
From the "Welcome Letter"
The Collaborative Leadership Learning Modules are based on the premise that collaborative leadership is a process or method to guide a diverse group of people to find solutions to complex problems that affect them all. Collaborative leadership embraces a process in which people with differing views and perspectives come together, put aside their self-interests, and discuss issues openly and supportively in an attempt to solve a larger problem or achieve a broader goal. Collaborative leadership is an evidence-based field that has proven particularly effective in public health planning where multiple stakeholders have an interest.
The Collaborative Leadership Learning Modules are available on a CD-ROM or as downloadable PDFs. They include materials for a six-module learning program for collaborative leadership development among public health professionals and diverse community partners. Each module focuses on one of six key practices of collaborative leadership: Assessing the Environment, Creating Clarity, Sharing Power and Influence, Building Trust, Self Reflection, and Developing People. The modules include a Facilitator's Guide, a Participant's Guide, a PowerPoint slide set, and a self-assessment tool. The Facilitator's Guide contains specific learning objectives, detailed activity descriptions, a list of equipment and supplies needed, and preparation required. Also provided is an additional module called Fundamental Concepts, which is a compilation of fifteen learning activities designed to introduce core concepts of collaborative leadership to audiences new to this field of study. (The Fundamental Concepts section is also available as a separate book.) Each module is designed to fit within a three- to four-hour block of time.
To access information about downloading (PDF) or ordering (CD-ROM/DVD) the Collaborative Leadership Learning Modules, visit the Collaborative Leadership website. To order the CD-ROM/DVD set, contact Jeff Wilson at Jeff.Wilson@vdh.virginia.gov
Turning Point, started in 1997, is an initiative of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Its mission is to transform and strengthen the public health system in the United States by making it more community-based and collaborative.
