Common Knowledge - South Australia
Now discontinued, Common Knowledge was an online collaborative news and information resource containing news and information from contributing organisations within the South Australian community sector. It was offered by InfoPartners, a consulting organisation established in 2001 to provide knowledge management, information management, and content management services to government, commercial, and not-for-profit organisations.
Communication Strategies
This initiative relied on the participation of community organisations to share news and information about their work. It used the medium of the internet to provide information about upcoming events, available grants and resources, reports of current and past projects, and a feature article. All pieces were written by, and were from the perspective of, the particular community organisation submitting the information. The newsletter was updated monthly online, with an archive of past issues also made available.
For example, one issue of Common Knowledge featured "Mental Health Week 2003". A brief summary explained why this week is held (to improve the mental health literacy of the community and to challenge stigmatisation). It also explained how organisers made the public aware of the event in a cost-effective way (using Eventspool, a free online service promoted by InfoPartners and linked on the Common Knowledge page). To cite another example from this issue, one of the "quick links" was a posting from the Youth Affairs Council of South Australia (YACSA). The posting shared a list of resources for organisations who are working to develop policies, procedures, and service standards, including an assessment tool called "Service Standards for Non-Government Youth Services". In many cases, links to full documents were provided; in all cases, contact details were included for the benefit of those interested in communicating further with the particular organisation.

Key Points
Discontinued in 2005, InfoPartners was the wholly commercial arm of Community Information Strategies Australia Inc. (CISA). Common Knowledge evolved from CISA's former service, The Knowledge, which was a monthly online newsletter. CISA has now joined with Community Information Australia Network (CIAN) and InfoPartners Pty Ltd to expand and develop its knowledge resources.
