Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Development Teams - Global

Development Teams is a Leadership Development programme. Development Teams matches projects in the Developing World with Corporate companies seeking Leadership Development programmes for their staff.
Communication Strategies

Development Teams will provide custom-made Leadership programmes from a variety of key industry professionals, offering a variety of tasks and skills. This will involve the clients own key staff in overseas Volunteer work on specific on going projects. These tasks may be manual, technical, or administrative, and often in remote locations. Clients can also donate their own time, skills and resources via online volunteering to specific projects on a longer term basis.

Key Points

Fees for individuals and companies joining Development Teams are charged to the Client, plus normal costs of co ordination, associated travel, insurance, accommodation etc. Fees are paid directly to the selected Development Projects, thus enabling the client's staff to not only enjoy Leadership Development courses, team building and logistics training, but also contribute directly to the Development projects of their choice. The Client can also benefit from normal and prior agreed PR activities associated with sponsoring the 'Volunteers' and the projects. The projects benefit from skills, labor and funding.
