Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Good Morning Afghanistan - Afghanistan

"Good Morning Afghanistan," a daily breakfast-time radio news programme produced and presented by young Afghan journalists, began broadcasting February 25, 2002 on Radio Afghanistan. The show operates from the original Radio Afghanistan studios in the centre of Kabul. The programme was launched by the Baltic Media Center (BMC), a Danish-based organisation seeking to extend democracy and civil society through an active, impartial media.
Communication Strategies
The show is transmitted to 75 percent of the country, covering 22 million people, and is broadcast in both Dari and Pashto, the main spoken languages in Afghanistan. The programme, which aires every day for two hours, broadcasts news, sports, travel and weather information and features stories from Afghanistan and South Asia, as well as more global information.

To prepare Afghan journalists for the programme, BMC produced a set of broadcast guidelines in Dari, Pashto, and English. Training also included a series of courses and workshops.

Political Development, Youth.
Key Points
BMC has been asked to produce education programming for both radio and television. Further programming, if funded, is expected to include "Good Evening Afghanistan" (for radio) and a weekly youth program (for television).
