ICTs for the Development of Education and the Construction of a Knowledge Society
This project's central strategy is working to develop a system for the educational use of ICTs for planning and policy-making through multi-country research projects and through the sharing of information. The following groups will participate in this process: policy-makers and decision-makers; trainers; developers of instructional materials; and educators. These groups will explore the use of ICTs for the development of general, special, vocational, and higher education. They will also consider applications of ICTs for the improvement of teacher education.
Central activities include the organisation of high-level thematic seminars (for example, on ICTs in distance education and multimedia in education) as well as training activities and workshops (for example, retraining of school educators on ICT application in secondary education). To support these activities, the ITTE website provides online publications, information resources, and thematic online seminars. An online forum will be developed.
Research will be conducted as part of an effort to identify indicators for ICT application in education and to evaluate the use of ICTs in history education. Expert meetings held throughout the research process will support the collection of data on and analysis of national action plans and policy documents, as well as comparative analysis of data and determination of needs for ICT development. Based on this research, participants will formulate reports, recommendations, and policy papers.
