International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics

The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics (iKnow Politics) is an online workspace designed to serve the needs of elected officials, candidates, political party leaders and members, researchers, students and other practitioners interested in advancing women in politics. The interactive network of women in politics is intended to be a space for sharing experiences, resources, and advice, and collaborating on issues of interest. iKnow Politics is a joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women), the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
The goal of iKNOW Politics is to increase the participation and effectiveness of women in political life by utilising a technology-enabled forum. The iKNOW Politics website plays a central role in achieving this goal by offering users the opportunity to:
- access resources, including the online library and the information and expertise of other users, experts, and practitioners;
- create knowledge through mediated discussion forums, information exchange, and consolidated expert responses to member queries; and
- share experiences by using tools specifically designed to facilitate the exchange of lessons learned and best practices among members of a global community committed to the advancement of women in politics.
The online space includes the following facilities:
- A Knowledge Library - In this section, users and members can find links to a vast variety of organisations that work in areas relevant to women in politics, from democracy and human rights to governance, leadership, and development.
- E-Learning programme - the e-learning facility is free and open to all interested people, participants can attend virtually from a computer anywhere in the world. The programme includes information on online courses offered by different organisations and universities and contact information for connecting with them; online video tutorials and webinars, and online interactive discussions with experts and audiences from around the world on specific thematic issues.
- Discussions - Online discussions spaces are used to connect women working in politics, for example through discussion circles, private group discussions, and Ask the Expert.
