Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

An organisation set up to improve the economic situation, educational opportunities, and social health assistance of Romany women and their children.
Communication Strategies
1) In March 1998 was started a programme to teach Roma children to read and write. RWAR offered underpriveledged children the opportunity to learn the reading and writing by offering them books, school supplies, clothes, shoes, food and monthly allocation.
2) A programme on contraception and family planning in Roma communities.
3) Publication of a "Women's Newsletter."
In the future RWAR intends to found a Resources Community Center, which could respond to Romany women's needs. The Center will develop the following activities:
1.Medical assistance activities: Medical consultation for women and children, free of charge, medical and family planning consultations, free of charge; information about HIV
2.Juridical and social assistance activities: Free information in this domain
3.Preparatory courses for Roma women and girls- "Getting a Job"
