Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Stepping Out: Video & Discussion Guide

SummaryText
A resource for youth-serving organisations, schools, health facilities, church groups and other programmes that work towards improving adolescent health and well-being in English-speaking Africa. "Stepping Out" is a set of six short video modules, which range from 10 to 15 minutes in length. Intended to serve as triggers for discussion, each video module focuses on a different topic. An accompanying Discussion Guide outlines role plays and group activities to help young people explore issues raised in the video modules and build the confidence and skills they need to cope with peer pressure, set goals, and make informed, responsible choices about sexual activity. Extensively pre-tested in several African countries, "Stepping Out" can be used as the basis for leading a six-session educational and skills-building programme for young people, aged 12 to 19.
