Stop Child Labour

The project organisers, Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) work in collaboration with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. The corporation broadcasts programmes on child labour in the electronic media and publishes articles on child labour in the print media. The project aims to lobby government and other service providers, as well as to increase the capacity of journalists to use mass media to expose the worst forms of child labour. The Stop Child Labour strategies include:

• Research on child labour
• Awareness raising and social mobilisation
• Encouragement of protective legislation
• Prevention and removal of children from work and provision of alternatives to families
• Write activity reports for the host organisation that will be forwarded to the sending organisation
• Education and training
• Rehabilitation
• Direct action and capacity building
• Creating a broad alliance of social actors

Children, Rights.

Stop Child Labour objectives are to:

• build capacity of AMWIK members to be able to create awareness on the issues of children working in commercial agriculture sector with the objective of preventtion.
• stimulate awareness in the general public about child labour in commercial agriculture and reaffirm the need to withdraw those already working and rehabilitate them through provision of positive alternatives.
• mobilise organisations already working on issues of child labour in commercial agriculture to disseminate their progress to the general public.
