Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Transfer of Learning: A Guide for Strengthening the Performance of Health Care Workers

The primary purpose of the guide is to share strategies and techniques that can be used before, during and after training interventions to ensure support for the transfer of knowledge and skills to improve performance on the job. The strategies and techniques for transferring learning are presented in a matrix allowing the user to navigate through the content. A case story demonstrates how to implement some of the ideas shared in the matrix while examining several factors that affect worker performance. The CD-ROM contains forms for completing an action plan, a primary tool for coordinating the transfer of learning to enable you to maximize the transfer of learning in a specific situation. An example of a completed action plan is also included.

The information in the Transfer of Learning Guide enables all of the stakeholders involved in a training intervention to play their respective roles in ensuring that transfer of learning occurs. Stakeholders in the training and learning process may include policy makers and officials at national, regional and local levels, program planners, supervisors, trainers, learners and their co-workers. Intrah/PRIME II and JHPIEGO feel that for learning interventions to be successful, stakeholders must work together as partners with a common goal.
