Women Speaking to Women - Cape Verde, Cameroon, India, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago, Malawi & Nepal
This project of UNESCO focuses on women and aims to increase opportunities for self-expression and communication with the development of community-based, low-cost, radio stations both designed and run by women. By responding to a variety of issues at the grassroots level, women in developing countries are hoped to start sustainable dialogue and be empowered within their communities.
Communication Strategies
Local, low-cost radio stations were established by women, for women with simple equipment for community development at the grassroots level.

Key Points
This work was initiated in response to the Declarations and Action Platforms of the Seminar on Women and the Media held in 1995. The initial scope of the project only covered four stations, in Cape Verde, Cameroon, India and Surinam, but as the project developed, more countries wished to be associated with it and partnerships were established accordingly.
