Fight the spread of malaria in Africa
This video, produced by Malaria No More speaks about the impact of the scourge of malaria on the African continent. It provides a short history of the disease, and attempts to treat it, from the United States, to Panama, to Sub-Saharan Africa. According to the video each year, up to half a billion people worldwide fall ill with malaria, and over a million of them die, mostly children under 5.
The video outlines the impact of malaria on economic growth, productivity, and on health care systems. It also highlights lessons learnt from malaria prevention programmes, such as and insecticide treated bed nets, indoor spraying and medication for pregnant mums, and medicines for those infected.
It details the importance of volunteer networks in malaria pevention and how existing life-saving solutions can be applied. It focuses on work undertaken by the Presidents Malaria Initiative, the Global Fund, the World Bank, UNICEF, the American Red Cross, and other NGOs and multi-lateral organizations.
