Earth Report
Currently (Feb. 2000) being transmitted 9 times weekly on BBC World, Earth Report is a global environment television news series developed and managed by Television Trust for the Environment (TVE).
Communication Strategies
The series covers a wide range of issues - evidence for pollution as the cause of falling sperm counts; ecological impact of Nato bombing on Yugoslavia; conflict over rainwater between Isrealis and Palestinians; preservation of the grasslands and way of life of Mongolia's nomads; the international toxic dumping trade, etc. One programme a month will be a global edition focusing on sustainable development solutions that work. Each installment is accompanied by web-site briefings, video-streaming and broadcast audio.
Development Issues
Environment, health and nutrition, economic development, rights, political development.
Key Points
The series will be launched with an easy to use on-line footage database. Producers and environment and development groups needing sequences on anything from grizzly bears to smokestacks will find them without the prohibitively expensive charges of commercial archives.
Partners
Over the past few years, the Earth Report has been funded by a range of international and multi-lateral donors including the UNEP, WWF, the Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF, the WHO, and the EC.
