Social norms action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Established in 1990, CEPIA is a non-profit NGO that works to develop projects that contribute to the strengthening of human rights and citizenship, especially among groups that have traditionally been preventing from exercising these rights.
Communication Strategies
CEPIA conducts studies and research projects in education, public policy, and social participation; results are disseminated widely throughout society. It also organises seminars, meetings, conferences, and ongoing conversations between participants in social movements, health professionals, trade union members, NGO personnel, opinion leaders, and those responsible for policies within the organisation. CEPIA also proposes, reaffirms, and supports claims on behalf of the women's movement and the international commitments made by the Brazilian Government.

Since 1994, CEPIA has designed several TV campaigns covering issues like HIV/AIDS and human rights that are broadcast by the country's main channels. It has also produced some radio commercials and educational videos.

Some of CEPIA's specific programmes include "Proyecto de Ciudadanía de las Mujeres (Women Citizenship Project)", "Proyecto de Reproducción de Videos Educativos/informativos sobre Salud y VIH/SIDA (HIV/AIDS Educational/Informative Video Copying Project)", and "Proyecto de Sensibilización de Funcionarios del Area de Seguridad Pública: un Diálogo con la Policía, apoyados por entidades gubernamentales y multilaterales (Sensitizing Project for Public Health Staff: a Dialog with the Police, supported by government and multilateral entities)".
