Science journalists from the Global South are being invited to submit their applications for the SciDev.Net Investigative Science Journalism Fellowship, which will provide one successful fellow with a cash prize of £3500/$5837, laptop, mentoring support from experts in science journalism, and training/conference opportunities. Offered by SciDev.Net with support from the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) and with funding from the International Development Research Centre, the fellowship is designed to encourage investigative science journalism in the Global South.
According to SciDev.Net, this fellowship "will support a journalist who would otherwise not be able to carry out this work. It will be judged by a panel of highly credible and respected professionals working in science journalism."

The fellowship is open to all science journalists (working in print, broadcast, or online) living and working within non-OECD countries who are employed by or freelance for a media outlet.

- The outline of the story/investigation: This should include the purpose of the investigation, what the applicant is hoping to uncover and report on, and how this will be done.
- Details of the existing evidence already gathered: SciDev.Net will expect evidence of a strong case for the investigation which will require the applicant to already have carried out some initial investigative work to support their case. The stage one fellowship will not support initial development of a 'hunch' or an 'idea'.
- Proposals that offer groundbreaking stories are encouraged: However, if the subject has been covered previously, please acknowledge prior coverage and explain how the proposed investigation would significantly advance the story.
- Consider and outline any legal implications of the investigation: SciDev.Net and any affiliated partners will not bear any legal responsibility for the actions of the Fellow or the final piece of work.
